No Earmarks for You!

Unlikely to be true, since the entire package, with the exception of the tax cuts, is one big earmark, Pres. Elect Obama's pledge to ban individual earmarks from the “stimulus” bill doesn't exactly inspire much confidence.

The entire essence of the program is to thow money at political projects as fast as the government can. That's it. That's the plan. Spend, spend, spend, it doesn't much matter on what.

Obama has very little leverage here, beyond pointing to items like the Vegas Mob Museum and saying things like “Bad Congress!! Bad!!! Sit!!! (Maybe I missed something – I kinda thought that Vegas was one big, live, interactive mob museum already), He doesn't have a line item veto. I don't think that there's much of an expectation that he's actually going to veto this thing over some Charlie Rangel monument. He can't even swat Congress on the nose with a rolled up newspaper. Both Pelosi and Reid know this. As does every other Congressman. It's probably too soon for a comeback for the “ Bridge to Nowhere”, but I'm not sure I'd bet against it.
