It's an Emergency!

I f nothing else, Obama seems determined to rehabilitate President Bush’s reputation as a fiscal conservative.

Between the trillion dollar plus deficits as far as the eye can see, the Daily Mail reports that the Obama inauguration expense is running north of 110 million pounds.

Based on today’s exchange rate, that’s about $160 million dollars. For some perspective, Salon’e s Eric Boehlert was having conniptions when he estimated the cost of GWB’s 2005 inaugural at comparatively measly $70 million.

In short, a stimulus plan for DC carterers, tuxedo rental stores, and hotels.

The fact that this has to be declared an emergency in order to free up unlimited federal funding certainly says something about the Obama regime, but nothing good.

Update (19 Jan 09): turns out a big chunk of the $170 million is being raised from our friends, the financiers. You know, the ones that the taxpayer has been bailing out to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars.

Ahhh, hope and change… as pay to play becomes even more entrenched in Washington.

Nice to know that they’re still willing to shell out the cash - our cash - to cozy up to Dear Leader.
