Stickin’ it to the Poor

By raising electricity rates into the stratosphere.

That’s exactly what Sen. Obama has in mind:

“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted.”

Coal only provides about 55-60% of America’s electricity, so bankrupting electric utilities shouldn’t create much of a burden on anyone. Unless you like to have electricity for lighting, heating, TVs, computers, medical equipment....

Change that will leave you both poorer and shivering in the dark.

Despite the liberal / progressive veneer about caring for the poor, you would think that, unlike carbon taxes and cap-n-trade, eventually they would come up with a policy that doesn’t aggravate poverty.

Since carbon taxes and cap-n-trade policies inevitably benefit both the government and the politically connected, the poor get consigned to the back of the bus, at least until it’s convenient to throw them under it.
