The Face of Socialized Medicine

Crestor has great potential benefits. But it’s expensive. What would Joe the Cost Control Bureaucrat from the Obama Nation do?

Answer: The same answer that bureaucrats always do – ration care to cut costs.

For example, Australia. The Rudd Government is busy denying residency to Dr. Bernhard Moeller, because his son has Down Syndrome, and may be expensive to treat.

It’s simultaneously vicious and short sighted – essentially forcing the only specialist in the Horsham area to leave. But some bureaucrat will have the satisfaction of meeting some cost control metric.

Citizens of Horsham may be reduced to setting their own broken bones and quarrying each other’s tonsils, but the greater good of socialized medicine will be served.
