Are You Paranoid?

Probably not nearly enough. Or, more likely, about the wrong things. This may or may not turn out to be a wrong thing, but it’s worth a worry.

Google is turning over search locations to the Feds. Granted, at present it’s just limited to folks searching on terms related to the flu, and the Feds are “only” the CDC, so it’s no big deal, right?

From Drudge:

“’Flu Trends’ uses search terms that people put into the web giant to figure out where influenza is heating up, and will notify the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in real time! GOOGLE, continuing to work closely with government, claims it would keep individual user data confidential: ‘GOOGLE FLU TRENDS can never be used to identify individual users because we rely on anonymized, aggregated counts of how often certain search queries occur each week.’”

This from a company that is busy earning a buck by supporting Chinese censorship and oppression.

Today, the flu. Tomorrow, who knows?

Time to try out scroogle.org or one of the other Google Alternatives.
