Why Politicians hate the Press II

Because they occasionally do valuable things – Like the Houstion Chronicle’s searchable database of Houston and Harris County public employee salaries.

Want a clue about why college is so expensive? Houston Community College has 30 employees who made over $100,000 in 2007. That includes a chancellor emeritus ($337k), chancellor ($242k), presidents (5 at a total of $164 - $169k each). There’s also a interim president, who’s apparently getting the shaft by comparison, since he’s only pulling down $134k.

It’s also interesting to note that the Chief of Police ($200k) makes more than the mayor ($177k). Even more interesting is that the mayor’s chief of staff makes more than the mayor ($199k).

It would be interesting to see a local study on Akron and Summit County.
