Unsurprising Headlines: “China to Limit Web Access During Games”

Before the games, during the games and after the games. Is anyone surprised that dictatorships behave like dictatorships?

Furthermore, is anyone surprised that the International Olympic Committee would agree to this? If there’s a buck to be made by appeasing some dictatorship someplace, the IOC is all over it. Keep in mind that this is a gang that thought that Iraq’s Olympic participation under Saddam was OK, but a government that won a real elections choices for the team are “too political”.

Fortunately, the resulting bad press made them back off on the Iraqis. Of course, the decision came “too late” to reinstate all of the Iraqi athletes.
