Local Government Spending in NE Ohio

Cuyahoga County at the top. Summit is in the top 5. Unfortunately, the data is from 2002, with some from 2005, so the results are pretty stale at this point.

Want to understand poor economic performance in northease Ohio? Here’s a hint:

“Total expenses per capita rose 68 percent between 1992 and 2002. Meanwhile, the Consumer Price Index in the urban Midwest increased 29 percent over the same period.”

And that’s just for the agencies that reported. The Beacon notes that many local government agencies did not report to the Census, so the actual burden of government expense is higher, perhaps significantly so.

The Beacon also provides this link to the database and related reports: NEO Region Information Look-up.
