Kwame Kilpatrick & David Patterson

Kilpatrick’s charged with 12 counts of perjury, obstruction of justice, official misconduct, etc., etc., etc., which he vehemently denies. Patterson, on the other hand, seems eager to confess to just about anything.

Kilpatrick, a “one time rising star, and Detroit’s youngest elected leader”, it’s kind of surprising that the AP release doesn’t mention his political party.*

“Youngest Elected Leader” should be a red flag that there’s trouble ahead – just look at what Dennis Kucinich did to Cleveland.

*For that matter, the NYT seems to follow the same stylebook in this bit about David Patterson. Or, for that matter, in this bit in which he admits cocaine use. Is there anything this guy won’t confess to? Kidnapping the Lindberg baby, perhaps? That’s about all that’s left.

Now, I know alternatively too much and too little about David Patterson… Since he and his wife have apparently reconciled, it’s less a matter of public concern than it would be otherwise, unless one of his trollops has received state contracts / jobs / promotions, etc. Likewise, cocaine use by someone in their 20’s shouldn’t be the end of the world either.

Unfortunately, the cumulative effect is somewhat corrosive, and the notion is building that he’s just one confession away from something pretty serious.
