Alternative Performance Art Under Threat!

It’s a new, innovative, fresh avant-garde theatre for the masses! Pushing the boundaries of alternative lifestyles and striking out against censorship, challenging the bourgeois culture of repression against the tobacco challenged!

Naturally, the censors are threatening to strike back, and continue to repress alternative voices raised against injustice and oppression:

“The Health Department this week vowed to begin cracking down on theater nights with fines of as much as $10,000.

‘The law was enacted to protect Minnesotans from the serious health effects of secondhand smoke,’ Minnesota Health Commissioner Sanne Magnan said. ‘It is time for the curtain to fall on these theatrics.’”
Essentially, Sanne Magnan is declaring herself Arbiter of the Arts. (Didn’t Rudi Giuliani run into trouble over this sort of behavior a couple of years ago? I wonder if the NT Times will crusade against the State of Minnesota’s attempt to censor the arts….)

All that’s missing is for the Minnesotans to apply for some National Endowment for the Arts money.

Gotta love this. A smoking ban passes in Minnesota. Key loophole: an exemption for actors. Result: Bar owners respond by… holding improv theatre nights.
