What to Expect from “Progressive Health Care”

Being stacked up in a parking lot to manipulate reports on waiting times for emergency treatment.

This is a classic case of gaming the system. Give some bureaucrats a target – in this case, treating ER patients within 4 hours of arrival, and they’ll meet it. Not by improving patient care, but by storing the sick and injured offsite, where they won’t hit the books.

Once the Government becomes responsible for health care, restricting supply becomes the priority. Since the public now has access to “free” health care, effective demand goes through the roof. The only recourse is to ration the supply via long waiting lines (with an inside track for the politically connected), while attempting to fool people into thinking that the government actually cares about improving service.
