Edwards is Out

So much for the faux patrician Tribune of the Downtrodden.

I’m sure that Sen. Obama will send a thank you note. Now there’s no major division of the anti-Clinton vote.

Once Edwards couldn’t win Iowa, after campaigning there for, oh, forever, he was pretty much done as a contender.

He’s been rumored to be Obama’s choice for Attorney General, and if chosen, shows every sign of making Alberto Gonzales look like a model of competence.

If he’s to remain in the political limelight, he either needs a cabinet level post, or needs to go back and win a term as governor of North Carolina. Best bet: spend some time with his family. There will always be another election. Or for that matter, hedge funds and expensive speechifying.

But sometimes, you don’t have the time to do everything that you want.
