Contrary to Popular Belief,

Big Business is not for free markets or free trade. It’s all in favor of having the government set regulations, output and prices. Nothing like getting Uncle Sam to keep out the competition, to increase the costs of doing business through regulation, and generally guaranteeing profitability to a few at the expense of the many.

Take the Sugar Lobby. If nothing else, this is a big business. One that’s busy using the government to take money out of your pocket to transfer it to their own. On top of that, by subsidizing and protecting American sugar growers, we penalize efficient producers, many of which are in the third world where the climate may be more suited to sugar production. It’s a trifecta of bad policy – take money from American Consumers, penalize poor foreign growers and fuel resentment and anti-Americanism abroad, and ruin our own environment.
