Atlantic City Mayor Robert Levy is being investigated for possibly defrauding the Federal Government for military disability benefits. For some reason, CNN never gets around to mentioning the Mayor’s political party. The AP has more on the financial shenanigans – apparently, $25,000 in potential ill gotten gains. The New York Times at least drops enough hints for the reader to make a guess as to his party affiliation. They did mention his affiliation directly, in a story on October 6, however, you had to read down to the 13th paragraph to find the information.
The Mayor’s exact military record isn’t clear in the CNN article, but there’s a potential “phony soldier” angle to the story. It certainly sounds like he served, and then embellished his resume to either defraud the government, win elective office, or both. Not good.
Is that worse than to lie about your military record to establish the street cred needed to win fame and fortune as an anti-war protester? Tough call.
