Warning – Shameless Plug Post!
What Ho!* I was going to say “featured on the BBC”, but that seems to be stretching the truth more than a bit. Never the less, it’s nice to be noticed, and my sources** tell me that the bit even made the wireless. (a.k.a. radio, for those of you too young to remember the days before Wi-Fi.) The only downer is that they didn’t link, which is rather poor form old man.
A reset: Bishop Martinus "Tiny" Muskens** was recently featured on TBMD’s “Mixed Nuts” feature for suggesting that we could all teach the world to sing in perfect harmony if only Christians and Jews took to calling God “Allah”. Needless to say, this phrase is so freighted with theological connotation that noting that it’s simply the Arabic word for God doesn’t seem to do the situation justice. Here’s my original post.
Unfortunately, this bit from Bishop Muskens seems all to likely: “… he predicted that within a century or two, Dutch Catholics would be addressing prayers to ‘Allah.’”. Probably because there won’t be many Dutch Catholics left if present trends continue.
* As an American, the only things I know about Great Britain are what I’ve seen on ‘Masterpiece Theatre” productions of “The Six Wives of Henry VIII”, “Elizabeth R”, and from reading P.G. Wodehouse.
**Major hat tip to Pho, who posts on the topic here, and was kind enough to email me about it.
*** Is it just me, or isn’t a nickname like “Tiny” more appropriate for two bit gangsters like William “Eggy” Prosdocimo or Hector "Big Weasel" Marroquin instead of a Bishop?
