Cap’n Ed

Wonders if Chuck Hagel, now that apparently he’s announced that he may announce that he may run for President on Monday, will be able to beat out Ron Paul and / or Tom Tancredo for last place.

Chuck Hagel? He’d have to dress better to qualify as an empty suit.

Simple question, simple answer.

No.

If perchance the planets align and he gets the nomination, he’ll have a tough time beating out the Libertarian candidate.

Though neither Ron Paul or Tom Tancredo can raise any money, they both have a hard core base of supporters. It may not be a large base, but it’s a base.

Chuck is trying to draft off of a Peggy Noonan column, and the fact that he’s the favorite media non-Republican Republican. That’s worth a lot, but at the end of the day, Chucky would rather be getting positive press in the MSM than get caught doing anything positive. (And by the way, out of this list, I’m not sure that anyone thinks of Lindsay Graham or Arlen Spector as conservatives. John McCain usually votes conservative when he’s not voting to trash the First Ammendment (see McCain-Feingold)).

But Paul and Tancredo are running on something other than the politics of seeing which way the wind is blowing. Love ‘em, Hate ‘em, they have principles. Chuck? The overriding sense Hagel generates is that Chuck is all about Chuck. Sort of like Kerry, only not as articulate, and without the Heinz money.

He couldn’t be bothered to vote yea or nea on Alito. That’s a profile in courage.
