Bush at the UN

Apparently, going to ask for support for building democracy in the Middle East. Given that Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, etc., have strong interests in preventing both a stable Iraq, and more especially a free and stable Iraq, I don’t think that he is going to get very far.

Given that the UN represents governments, and most of the governments represented in the UN are not democracies, and are often run by dictatorial nuts such as Kim Jong Il, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, and Bashar Assad. (though in fairness to Assad, he seems to be settling into a role as Iran’s flunky in the region.) One hopes that soon we’ll be able to stike Fidel’s name from the list.

A large chunk of the remaining countries are run by relatively rational thugs. And, at the top, we have the kleptocrats who brought you Oil for Food, possibly the largest scam in history.

The UN – a place of unique illegitimacy.
