It’s Gingrich v Clinton, Round II!

Well, almost. It’s really Jon Corzine (D), Governor of New Jersey, vs. the heavily democratic state house playing Government Shutdown Roulette. However, this time everybody’s the bad guy, with the Governor insisting on a 16.7% increase in sales taxes (from 6% to 7%), and the state legislature’s raising working on “alternatives” consisting of payroll or income tax hikes.

If nothing else, the intra party squabble over tax increases will give the Kean campaign something to talk about. It will also likely boost other Republican candidates, by brining the “can’t trust the Democrats on taxes” line to the front – “Look an New Jersey! Those crazy dems can’t even decide between themselves how much more you’ll have to pay!”.
